How to Take this Medication

Less than seven weeks: Swallow 200mg of Mifepristone (one big tablet) with water after having a meal at a convenient time. Within 24~48 hours from taking the big tablet, be sure to take four Misoprostol pills (small ones) by melting them under your tongue or in your cheeks for 30 minutes.

7 ~ 10 weeks: Swallow 200mg of Mifepristone (one big tablet) with water after having a meal at a convenient time. Take another 200mg Mifepristone (one big tablet) 30 minutes after the meal and within 24 hours. Within 24~48 hours since taking the second tablet, be sure to take four Misoprostol pills (small ones) by melting them under your tongue or in your cheeks for 30 minutes. Be aware of your progress for 24 hours after taking the four Misoprostol pills. If there is no bleeding like a period, take another four Misoprostol pills again using the same method.

(You MUST take four Misoprostol pills by melting them under the tongue or in the cheeks. Swallow any remnants after 30 minutes.)

While taking the medication, be sure to stay away from grapefruit and grapes.

You must quit smoking while on the medication. There are no fasting hours and no other particular food you should watch out for.

※ You must NOT drink alcohol until the bloody discharge is completely over. Inflammation due to alcohol may increase the amount of bloody discharge after its reduction and prolong the time of bloody discharge. Be sure to stay away from alcohol until the bloody discharge stops completely.

The Process

There are no particular symptoms that are expected after taking 200mg of Mifepristone (big tablet). You may have some bloody discharge or a stomachache, but they are part of the normal process. You can be assured.

You may suffer a severe stomachache for about an hour after taking the four Misoprostol pills. The ache may last for about three hours depending on the body and constitutions of the individual.

It is a good idea to take a pain killer 30 minutes before taking the Misoprostol.

Pain killers containing ibuprofen are fine.

There are many different kinds of pain killers that contain ibuprofen, but Advil is the best choice.

If you do not have access to Advil, EZN 6 Eve or Tak-Sen Eve is the next best choice.

When the stomach pain starts after taking Misoprostol varies among women. It may take five minutes to 24 hours.

Bleeding may happen right after the stomach pain starts or it may happen hours later.

Clots of blood or fetal issue may be discharged during the bleeding process.

The amount and size of discharge will vary among individuals.

The amount of bleeding depends on each individual and will proceed like a period.

If the bleeding does not stop and continues in a small stream even after two big sanitary pads within an hour, go and see your doctor at the hospital.

The bleeding may last 1~3 weeks. If it lasts for four weeks or longer, go and see your doctor at the hospital.

In the process of bleeding for 1~3 weeks, you may discharge some clotted blood or gore. The amount of bleeding can increase in the process. After this process, the amounts of bleeding will decrease and end.

Check the Outcome

After taking the medication, bleeding and discharge will happen until the symptoms of pregnancy disappear.

If you experience no particular symptoms of pregnancy a couple of weeks after the medication, check that the abortion process has happened correctly with an ultrasound or blood test.

A blood test will take place two or three times. The numbers should be lower in Test 2 or 3 than Test 1 to ensure that the abortion has taken place.

You can check a pregnancy test kit only after the pregnancy hormones are gone completely. It may take three to four weeks for the pregnancy hormones to disappear depending on the individual woman.
